International Women’s Day
I attended a Pacific Council event featuring Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet. She is one of four generations of her family to serve in the Peace Corps and the 19th director of the agency. Her career began as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Western Samoa. The evening was very inspiring but there were two quotes in particular that I have been thinking about:
#1. “In order to be an effective agent of change, you need to listen and get buy in at the local level.” This advice is important for any leader and it is something I always try to keep in mind. You’ve got to build trust and be bold.
#2. “Real, profound, transformative change takes a long time.” Yes, change is hard and it doesn’t come easy, so that’s why we must be audacious in our aspirations and never stop imaging the possibilities for a better, brighter future for all.
