I remember seeing Chris Burden’s “The Big Wheel,” at the Lannan Foundation. At first the sculpture was absolutely silent and still and then suddenly the piece roared to life. The motorcycle began to speed up and it’s back wheel made the massive steel wheel began to spin. It went faster and faster. Hearing the incredible noise of the engine and feeling the enormous power of the spinning wheel in motion was truly an amazing and memorable experience. We lost a great artist this week. Thank you Chris Burden for expanding my understanding of art and what is possible.
