The Importance of Creativity

“What is the economic impact of creativity? Otis College of Art and Design President Samuel Hoi set out to answer this question and this week the 8th annual Otis Report on the Creative Economy was released with a documentary film, “The State of Creativity”. The report uses data to make the case for the importance of the creative industries. For example, in the L.A. region the output of the creative industry totaled $140 billion and generated 695,100 jobs. The statewide report will be released April 15 in Sacramento. The Otis Report can leave no doubt that creativity is a powerful economic driver both regionally and statewide. Now more than ever, it is critical that leaders from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors work together to develop and sustain the talent pipeline that feeds the creative economy of our region.” Excerpt from www.otis.edu. So do your part. Go to a museum, concert, film or play. Visit a cultural institution and take an art class. However most importantly be an advocate for arts so we can continue to nurture the generation of creators and innovators in CA.
